Is Medical Marijuana A Miracle Or Just Another Fad?

Is Medical Marijuana A Miracle Or Just Another Fad?

Everyone dreams of excellent health, ideal weight, longevity, perfect skin, nails, hair, eyesight, and a balanced physical and emotional state for many years. These are the body and mind goals that lead to endless health fads.

Some people believe in a keto diet for weight loss, activated charcoal, detox diets, and much more. The problem with these fads is that very few have verifiable health benefits, and most are only based on what social media influencers say about their personal experience.

Medical marijuana has gained a lot of popularity over the past few years. Many claim it is the magical cure that can help manage stress, spasticity, cancer symptoms, depression, insomnia, acne, and all other health conditions.

The crucial question is, has marijuana been scientifically tested and proven to manage all of these health conditions, or are they all just a selling point?

Here is a little perspective on whether the herb is a miracle cure or another passing fad.

1.   Medical Marijuana and Cancer

Research shows that over 30 percent of Americans will battle with cancer at one point in their lifetime. Cancer is one of the most complex, painful, and complicated health journeys for most people. Sadly, a lot of people succumb to it.

Scientists are working tirelessly to find cures, therapies that work, and ways to manage the pain, inflammation, discomfort, and lack of sleep brought on by cancer. Medical marijuana actually became a hit when patients recovering from cancer realized that smoking marijuana helped manage their symptoms.

But does medical marijuana really work in easing cancer symptoms?

  • One of the negative side-effects of chemotherapy is how it leads to nausea, vomiting, and reduces your appetite. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in medical marijuana helps people who undergo chemotherapy quell their nausea. It also suppresses their tendency to vomit and increases their appetite.
  • Worry is another common mental health complication among cancer patients. You spend a lot of time wondering if you will beat the menace as you have your kids, job, and all other aspects of your life to worry about. A little medical marijuana containing cannabinoids will interact with your CB1 and CB2 receptors. This stimulates the production of the antidepressant hormone serotonin and reduces the production of the stress hormone, cortisol. As a result, recovering cancer patients who use medical marijuana live a more stress-free life.
  • Chemotherapy drugs are also known to interfere with the circadian cycle that dictates the sleep and waking patterns. It is why a lot of people battling cancer also struggle with insomnia. Cannabinoids in marijuana also activate CB1 receptors to produce melatonin, the hormone that creates a high or euphoric feeling, and also mellows you out so that you can sleep comfortably.
  • The other battle cancer patients have to manage is the growth of cancer cells, which leads to tumors metastasizing. This complicates therapy and sometimes leads to death. Medical marijuana is packed with flavonoids and plant terpenes. These plant chemicals have amazing antioxidant properties. Terpenes like limonene, (that are present in lemons), Linalool, Pinene, and Curcumin are also found in capsicum and are strong sources of antioxidants that fight the growth of cancer cells.

2.   Medical Marijuana and Arthritis

Osteoarthritis, which is a common form of arthritis, leads to the wearing down of the caps of cartilage that cover the bones. Rheumatoid arthritis, on the other hand, leads to the inflammation of the synovial membrane, which covers and lubricates the synovial joints. Both conditions lead to inflammation and excruciating pain.

There are a lot of therapies and treatment alternatives for arthritis. However, patients who incorporate medical marijuana into their treatment process state that it helps them deal with pain and inflammation.

Marijuana is popular with arthritis patients because it helps them quit their reliance on opioids to help them manage pain. Cannabidiol, in particular, is rich in cannabinoids, which stimulate the body’s own endocannabinoid system to produce the hormones it needs for pain relief and to alleviate inflammation. CBD oil reduces the production of prolactin, and insulin, hormones known to increase inflammation.  They also increase the production of DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) and testosterone, which reduce inflammation.

Anxiety is the body’s natural response to intense or threatening situations. However, when anxiety gets extreme, you may start experiencing light-headedness, dizziness, and nausea. When the feeling persists for days, you could be developing an anxiety disorder.

The common types of anxiety disorders include:

  • Generalized anxiety disorder
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder
  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • Panic disorders and phobias

Anxiety affects all parts of the body in different ways. The central nervous system releases hormones on a regular basis when you have an anxiety disorder. This hormone overload leads to health complications such as headaches, dizziness, and depression. You may also experience stomach upsets and other digestive problems.

Medical marijuana interacts with your central nervous system and regulates the production of stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol. The reduction in stress hormone overload leads to the restoration of your emotional balance. It also leads to the reduction of problems with your digestive system.Besides that,to reap similar benefits you can also try your hands on CBD edible canada.

Conclusion

Scientific research has proven that medical marijuana is not a fad and that the cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, and other chemicals in marijuana have massive health benefits. The crucial thing is sourcing your cannabis from trusted suppliers, and ensuring that you follow the recommended dosages.
